# Algeria Fight Back to Draw Against Burundi in AFCON Qualifier Algeria were forced to come from two goals behind as they rescued a 2-2 draw against Burundi in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Bujumbura. The Desert Foxes endured a nightmare opening 12 minutes, with Burundi quickly establishing a 2-0 advantage and putting the visitors under serious pressure. Burundi opened the scoring after Farès Chaïbi was credited with an own goal in the fifth minute. Jean Girumugisha then struck seven minutes later to double the hosts’ advantage. Algeria eventually found a response in the 30th minute when Mohamed El Amine Belloumi reduced the deficit and gave the visitors hope of completing a comeback. The Algerians suffered another setback before half-time when Himad Abdelli was forced off with an injury, but they continued pushing for an equaliser after the break. Their pressure finally paid off in the 63rd minute. Adil Boulbina found the back of the net to bring Algeria level and complete the comeback. Neither side could produce a winning goal during the remainder of the match, leaving the points shared. The draw means Algeria remain unbeaten after two Group I matches and have four points, following their opening 3-1 victory over Zambia. Burundi, meanwhile, picked up their first point of the qualifying campaign after losing 1-0 to Togo in their opening fixture. For Algeria, the comeback was valuable, but dropping two points after conceding twice so early will leave the team with plenty to analyse ahead of the next round of qualifiers.
