P.J. Washington Receives Major Trade Update as Mavericks Remain Committed to Forward
P.J. Washington has received a significant update regarding his future with the Dallas Mavericks, with the franchise reportedly remaining committed to keeping the veteran forward despite continued trade speculation.
Washington has become one of the more important pieces of Dallas’ roster since joining the Mavericks, and his name has continued to appear in discussions surrounding potential roster moves. However, the latest indication is that the organization still views him as part of its plans moving forward.
The situation is particularly notable because Washington was one of the final players remaining from the Mavericks’ roster during the Luka Doncic era. Dallas made the blockbuster decision to trade Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025, receiving Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a future first-round pick in return.
Since then, the Mavericks have undergone another major transformation. Anthony Davis was later moved to the Washington Wizards in a three-team deal, giving Dallas additional players and valuable draft assets as the organization shifted its focus toward building around Cooper Flagg.
Washington, however, appears to remain part of that new direction.
His versatility gives Dallas an important option in the frontcourt. He can defend multiple positions, contribute on the glass and provide offensive spacing, making him a useful complement to the younger core the Mavericks are assembling.
The Mavericks have also continued reshaping their roster during the offseason. Dallas acquired Santi Aldama from the Memphis Grizzlies in July in a deal that sent AJ Johnson and future draft compensation to Memphis.
Despite those changes, the latest trade update suggests Dallas is not actively looking to move Washington simply for the sake of making another deal. The organization appears comfortable with his role and believes he can contribute to the team’s next phase.
That does not necessarily mean Washington is completely untouchable. NBA trade situations can change quickly, particularly when teams are attempting to build around a young franchise cornerstone. But for now, the message from Dallas is clear: the Mavericks remain committed to P.J. Washington.
With Cooper Flagg now at the centre of the franchise’s long-term plans, Washington could have an opportunity to become an important veteran presence alongside the young star. His experience and two-way ability could prove valuable as Dallas attempts to turn its recent roster changes into a competitive team for the future.
For Washington, the latest development provides some stability after several seasons of significant changes in Dallas. Rather than being immediately viewed as a potential trade piece, he appears to have earned the confidence of the organization as the Mavericks begin another chapter.
